Pretty Boy Floyd Mayweather, aka Money Mayweather KO's his Brittish opponent Ricky Hatton at the MGM GRAND in Las Vegas on December 8, 2007.
This was Mayweather's fight to win and Hatton's to take. Both boxers came into the fight with perfect undefeated records. Hatton (43-0, 31 KOs) and Mayweather (38-0, 24 KOs). Expectations were high and the pressure was on. Mayweather, known for his flamboyant entrances, including guest rap appearances by rap artist 50 CENT, toned it down and just handled his business. He entered the ring to "Born in the U.S.A." by Bruce Springsteen being played, which we all felt was admirable, yet slightly humorous.
The crowd at the MGM Grand was overwhelmingly pro-Hatton, thanks to thousands of Brits traveling some 6,000 miles to support the underdog opponent Ricky Hatton.
The fans got a good show, but didn’t go home happy, unless they enjoyed some of the other great shows and tourist attractions that Las Vegas has to offer. The British fans were a great part of the show. Aside from some booing during our National Anthem, they were very enthusiastic and cheerful. They even cheered Mayweather during his post-fight interview.
Hatton did win a couple rounds, but clearly got broke-off. He put up a good fight, and he has nothing to be ashamed of. Ultimately, he's just not as good of a fighter as Mayweather. Right now no one is as good of a fighter as Mayweather. This confirming that he's the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. It seemed that The Pretty Boy Floyd switched his style to adapt to Hattons aggressive tactics. He basically wore him out and landed some good tuff blows with high percentages. He was patient and smart. He was also very respectable and had some good words to speak about Hatton and all the supportive British fans. Definitely a class act on the part of the still undisputed welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather.
