Lucky Boys Confusion - Commitment
Where have I been? I've heard some buzz about Lucky Boys Confusion (LBC) in the past. They're from Chicago and yadda-yadda, but for some reason, never listened to their music. Boy, was I missing out! LBC's new album Commitment can best be described in one word; "AWESOME." Whether you're a fan on pop punk, pop rock or even a little rap, you will undoubtedly love Commitment. LBC is a band that deserves a lot more respect and limelight than they've gotten in the past and this album may just be they key. They are a band that could easily kick Good Charlotte and Simple Plan off the pop-punk throne and I hope they do. Their song writing is intelligent, honest and real. Lyrically, Commitment is an album about going through the gauntlet of life's trials and tribulations, questions, love, death and achievement. "Something to Believe" is a song that questions religion and God and longs for the meaning of spirituality, while "Hey Driver" is that song that almost anyone can relate to if they've ever thought of just packing up and leaving. Perhaps the strongest and most emotional song on Commitment is "Mr. Wilmington." It's a song with the feel of Simon and Garfunkel's "Mrs. Robinson," yet the meaning of the song is completely different. Basically, the it's about dealing with suicide, regret and how to cope with that. It's a powerful track to say the least. It would be incorrect to say that LBC has one certain musical style they stick to. "Broken" is a quick sung, almost rap song, with an airy chorus while "Sunday Afternoon" has strong reggae tones and features underground reggae legend, Half Pint. Commitment does not fail to bring the rock though. Almost every song makes you want to get up, dance and sing along. Speaking of singing along, LBC makes that easy for you. The album is melodic and full of hooks that make learning the words simple. Frontman, Stubhy's vocals are clean and strong. He's got enough range to hit high keys as well as low ones without failure. Commitment is a lot more consistent, mature and grounded than their previous album Throwing The Game. LBC have really seemed to nail down their sound and appear to be confident about that. Even though much of the songs are serious and emotional, the music itself allows for Commitment to be fun and entertaining. It's got the feel of Mest, but with more maturity and the addictive power of Blink 182 and Green Day. I give Commitment a 10 (out of 10) for its overall energy, strength and enjoyment. If you haven't heard of Lucky Boys Confusion, familiarize yourself with them. Get Commitment and throw your Good Charlotte CDs away, because these Boys are the real deal!
