Daphne Loves Derby - On the Strength of All Convinced Daphne Loves Derby is one of those bands people hear a buzz about at shows or through talking to their friends. A suggestion is made to check out their Purevolume site and soon afterward the band can claim over two million plays. According to the band, DLD had more plays than some of their favorite, well-established bands. They owe it all to the Internet. Okay, so maybe they don’t owe it all to the Internet. These Seattle-based boys have their shit together. With On the Strength of All Convinced DLD present a tight and enjoyable rock album. Whether you’re a fan of Jimmy Eat World or Something Corporate, you’ll like DLD. Lyrically, the songs on On the Strength of All Convinced are positive and somewhat uplifting. Musically, DLD fuse a wide variety of tones and genres to create their sound. Whether it’s the piano / keyboard driven songs like “Sundays” and “Debussie” or the pop-punk melodies of “If You’re Lucky, No One Will Get Hurt” and “Kirby,” On the Strength of All Convinced has something for everyone. “Pollen and Salt” is a low key acoustic track, while “Birthday Gallery” is also melancholy yet rock driven. The vocals won’t let you down either. Kenny Choi has a soothing voice perfect for his band’s tones. On the Strength of All Convinced is simply a well-rounded indie album that won’t let you down. I give On the Strength of All Convinced an 8 (out of 10). I’m sure that we’ll be hearing a lot more buzz about these guys soon!
