There’s a fine line between having too much
time to write a record and not enough. Luckily for Arizona
based, The Bled, five months was exactly what they needed to
complete the writing of Silent Treatment. It’s the
longest the band have ever spent writing a record, but for
their third installment, every minute was worth it.
Silent Treatment,
produced by Brian McTernan (Converge, Strike Anywhere,
Thrice), is post-hardcore bliss. Each song shines with
metallic edges, powerful drum riffs and intricate guitar
licks. “You Should Be Ashamed of Myself,” is controlled
chaos, with ripe vocals, while “Starving Artiste” chugs
along leaving the listener head banging well after its
conclusion.
Topically, the album is about the
apprehension one goes through when trying to make changes
for the better. The fear and darkness is reflected on
Silent Treatment with its sheer intensity.
The Bled aren’t trying to rewrite the rule
book, but Silent Treatment would definitely cater to
fans of hardcore to metal. I give this record a 7 (out of
10).
