T
ypically, a four-song EP wouldn’t pique
my interest, but the description of Bixler did, so I gave
the CD a spin and I’m glad I did.
Despite the small number of songs, Bixler
comes out swinging with huge sounding tracks. It’s obvious
that this infectious EP is just the beginning of something
much larger. With a foundation that rests almost entirely on
pop-rock and pop-punk, yes Bixler is keeping it alive, the
band will have their songs featured on MTV’s My Super
Sweet Sixteen, Real World Road Rules Extreme Challenge,
not to mention a couple more.
Armed with a good start and some
touring experience with Yellowcard, Feable Weiner and The
Pink Spiders, Bixler could just be the CPR pop-punk
needs. The track “October” gives Dashboard Confessional a
run for their money, while the energetic opener “Falling to
Pieces” will have kids thirsting for more. I give Bixler’s
self-titled EP a 7 (out of 10). It will be interesting to
see what a full-length sounds like from these guys.
Suggested Listening: It’s only four
songs, give them all a listen!
