Bigwig have taken their music to another level with Reclamation, the band's fourth studio album. These New Jersey boys have an affinity for hyper-fast riffs that are guaranteed to have feet tapping at speeds that seem almost convulsive.
Overall, Reclamation is very politically and socially driven. Bigwig are definitely speaking out about the things they don't like. The album opens with "A War Inside," an intense gritty punk song about nonconformity. From there on, the energy level never ceases, sort of like the war in Iraq. "Follow the Leader" is another Mach-1 speed song containing metal-tinged riffs with a message about how society lets the government do whatever it wants to us.
"Rat Race" has more of a poppy, bouncy tone, while "Last Song, Last Call" has almost a ska feeling to it. There's no doubt that Reclamation will appeal for old fans of the band, while hooking in new ones, one listen at a time.
The message on Reclamation is just as powerful as the music. "Timebomb" discusses the brainwashing that goes on with our soldiers and "Reclamation" is all about standing up for yourself. Overall, Bigwig has released an all around intense package that is sure to raise some eyebrows. I give Reclamation a 7.5 (out of 10).
Suggested Listening: "Owned and Operated," "Follow the Leader" and "Last Song, Last Call."
