One of the things I like most about the Atticus series is its versatility. I’ve loaned my copies of Dragging the Lake Volume 1 and Volume 2 to friends so they get an idea of what kind of music I’m into. It’s great to have an album of 24 songs from different bands because it can create new favorites and act as a template for the current scene.
Dragging the Lake Volume 3 is being released in conjunction with SIDEONEDUMMY Records and is due to hit the streets on February 22, 2005. This new hodgepodge of songs features rare and unreleased songs from bands like Blink 182 “Not Now,” Motion City Soundtrack “1000 Paper Cranes” and MxPx “Grey Skies Turn Blue.” The acoustic version of Fall Out Boy’s “Grand Theft Autumn / Where is Your Boy” is also on Volume 3.
Additionally, Volume 3 features favorites from bands like Taking Back Sunday “Number Five With A Bullet,” Funeral For A Friend “She Drove Me to Daytime Television,” Rise Against “Dancing For Rain” and The Kinison “You’ll Never Guess Who Died.”
Up and coming bands like Gratitude, The Bled and Saosin also get some track time on Volume 3, making it easy to garner some new favorites. There’s even a couple rock-electronica songs by The Sounds and VCR.
I give Atticus ….Dragging the Lake Volume 3 an 8 (out of 10). It’s the perfect disc for putting into your CD player and simply jamming to. It’s nothing earth shattering, but damnit, it’s fun!
