Lets start this off by saying, Angels and Airwaves sound nothing like Blink 182. Perhaps the only resemblance is Tom DeLonge’s whine, but set in a much different style of _expression and topic. We Don’t Need to Whisper is also not punk, pop punk or anything in between. The album as a whole is chillaxed with floating melodies, airy harmonies serious song topics.
“Valkyrie Missile,” the album’s opener, sets the stage with its long musical intro, electronic programming additives and very mature feeling. “The Adventure” is again, a mature and powerful song. Other tracks like “Distraction,” “It Hurts” and “Start the Machine” use a lot of repetition, but not to the point of annoyance. These songs seem to exemplify the artistry DeLonge is truly capable of.
Even though Angels and Airwaves use a lot of quickly plucked guitar licks, it’s not an album that will have people dancing like maniacs to or even playing air guitars. It’s mellow, yet powerful and a borderline epic. I give We Don’t Need to Whisper an 8.5 (out of 10). There is a lot of talent combined with out-of-the-box thinking with Angels and Airwaves.
