A Wilhelm Scream - Career Suicide
Well, here is to A Wilhelm Scream for not committing career suicide with their fourth full-length album entitled, uh, Career Suicide. AWS have absolutely nailed down the way punk should sound. Hyper-fast drum riffs, quick guitar licks and in-your-face vocals drive Career Suicide home with sheer energy. Packing in 13 songs in just over 35 minutes make AWS's delivery abrupt, yet memorable. Remember the days when Rancid would through over 20 songs at us in like a half hour; yeah, its kind of like that. Produced by Bill Stevenson and Jason Livermore (Rise Against, NOFX), AWS have taken their follow-up to 2005's Ruiner and sped things up a lot, but maintained the ingenuity and anthemic flair fans have come to love. Career Suicide wastes no time as the opening track "Wipe My Ass With Showbiz" explodes out of the speakers. Interesting fret work continues on "The Horse" and "Jaws 3, People 0." Nick Angelini's drum talents are magnified on "Pardon Me, Thanks A lot." Overall, there is nothing boring about Career Suicide. It's by far one of the the best punk records released in 2007 and perhaps even Rise Against will have trouble topping it in 2008. Suggested Listening: "We Built This City! (On Debts and Booze)," "Wipe My Ass With Showbiz" and "The Horse" By: Adam K. Zakroczymski III - Senior Editor / Founder Copyright 2007 ŠPopular Underground Magazine |
