A Static Lullaby - Self-titled

With A Static Lullaby’s newest Self-Titled release it’s reassuring to see the band grow musically and give listeners a huge record. ASL upped the ante here with a fuller sound, technical melodies and harmonies, all wrapped in a tighter package. Oh, and yeah, this record is definitely harder than previous efforts, however, ASL has found a way to maintain a hook sensibility.

ASL opens the record with the explosive “Hang ‘Em High” and features the band’s signature sing / scream vocal harmonies. “The Collision” is almost like a spoken word track, only the words are screamed over a driving melody. “Eager Cannibals” has standard rock elements with all the components of a good screamo band, while “Annexation of Puerto Rico” is simply an in-your-face energetic ball of fire.

Overall, this album is ASL’s best. I give it an 8.5 (out of 10). If mainstream radio was a little more accepting of bands like ASL, this album would ASL’s From Under The Cork Tree.

Suggested Listening: “”Eager Cannibals,” “Life in a Museum,” “Annexation of Puerto Rico” and “The Collision”
