After listening to A Heart Well Ending’s release Trust Us We Lie the question gets posed; how long until this poppy punk stuff becomes stale? The answer, it only becomes stale when the music starts to suck. Luckily with AHWE the music doesn’t suck and they keep things interesting.
Overall, each track on Trust Us is energetic and sure to get kids dancing. The up and down feeling of “The Secret ‘Between the Sheets’” is reminiscent of The Matches, while the fist-pumping “Give Up to Give In” could best be compared to Allister.
Vocally, each track is powerful. Justin Allen’s voice ranges from high-pitched singing on “Trust Us We Lie” to shrill croons on “You’re my Dream Catcher.” Ultimately, the entire album is quite cohesive and never skips a beat.
It’s likely that AHWE will be turning some heads and with an album as solid as Trust Us We Lie, they have every right to. I give Trust Us an 8 (out of 10). Sure, we may have heard stuff like this before, but it hasn’t gone sour.
Suggested Listening: “Give Up to Give In,” “The Secret ‘Between the Sheets’” and “All Along”
