Yellowcard
I am thrilled to have had the opportunity to interview Yellowcard. As a five man band they have sold over 3 million records and have released their third album entitled “Paper Walls” in mid July. This superb pop-rock band spawns straight out of Florida and has been constantly turning head throughout the world with its recent tour schedule.

Having the privilege to interview lead vocalist Ryan Key through Capital Records allowed me to acquaint myself with this band who recently performed at the infamous NHL Draft Party! As mentioned below they are launching quite an extensive tour with Blue October this fall.

Here’s what Ryan Key had to say:

PUM: If you could sum up in 3 words your newest album “Paper Walls” what would they be?
Key: Energy, intensity and powerful!

PUM: Is this approach different than your previous albums?
Key: The last album we tried was experimental. This one however, is not. There was no agenda. We just wanted to create something that was fun to listen to.

PUM: Is there a particular message or theme you are trying to get across to listeners?
Key: Nope. It concerns no politics or anything like that. If there had to be a general message it would be: to enjoy the music and these powerful, fun songs!

PUM: I noticed there were no set Chicago tour dates on the agenda. Do you plan on venturing here for a show anytime in the near future?
Key: We are going to be touring in the fall with Blue October. We’ll be performing in all parts of the country however the tour list is not finalized as of yet.

PUM: Who/What has been your biggest inspiration?
Key: Basically we are getting back to the roots. We just hope to write songs that will affect people positively.

PUM: You seem very involved in the Sudan issue, which is great! Is there any particular reason behind that? Are there any other volunteer projects you are working on as well?
Key: We had the opportunity to participate in helping out with the Sudan issue. It’s a great was to raise awareness and we had a chance to help as a tribute to John Lennon. That’s all at the moment though.

PUM: Finally, you guys are worldly travelers, where is the best place to party while on tour?
Key: Japan! There is a bar called “Rock Rock” and it’s a good time every time we go! We have our picture on the wall there and we know the owner which makes it always fun!
