Hugh Jackman reprises his role as Wolverine.
This movie shows the origin of the character while introducing his
brother, Sabretooth, played quite deliciously by Live Schreiber.
Other mutants show up in smaller parts, a few of which we have seen
before, and some we have not. The brothers have both been born with
animal instincts, but one chooses to ignore the ferocity and try to
be good while the other embraces the animal inside him and uses it
to kill whether for good or bad.
Normally, a summer action movie is not about
the acting, but Schrieber overshadows Jackman as the fierce
Sabretooth using snarls, dramatic flair, and a coldness and
seriousness that would trounce Wolverine in any battle of the mind.
The director is able to produce exciting sequences although relies a
bit too heavily on CG instead of stunts which diminishes the quality
of the scenes.
Overall, Wolverine, is not bad. It is
just not as great as the original X-men or X-men 2 and
does not even compare to the quality of Iron Man. There is a
reasonable story; there is good action, but for the most part, it is
nice that this is an origin story and the other X-men movies
have been created so that there is no need for a sequel.
