The Bigger Lights - Fiction Fever

(4.5 Out of 5)

Newbie punk rockers Topher Talley (Vocals), J.K. Royston (Chords), Dan Mineart (Lyrics) and Mikey Davis (Beats/Drums) joined forces mid 2007 forming a band called The Bigger Lights.  This Fairfax, Virgina four-piece is all about exploring the music scene and breaking the ice around the country with both their youth and music, a winning combination.

As a follow up to their first EP Third Act Stories, The Bigger Lights released a second EP on October 7th entitled Fiction Fever under Doghouse Records.  Fiction Fever contains six tracks to which the music speaks for itself.  These youngsters bring you up immediately and manage to hold that elevation throughout the rest of the album.   With sounds similar to All American Rejects there is no wonder why they’ve been characterized as “infectiously energetic”.

The potential in this band lies in the fact that throughout the album they change the sound of the music while still maintaining the style of punk, their own unique sound, and an overall uplifting energy. My favorite tracks have to be the first one entitled “Closer (Time Stops Breathing)” and “Goldmine Valentine”.  I look forward to seeing what else these guys can do.
