Michael Cera (of Arrested Development fame) and Jonah Hill (of Knocked Up and Accepted fame) star in this comedy written by Seth Rogen, the new up and coming genius (so called by Hollywood) of 40 Year Old Virgin and Knocked Up fame). Superbad tells the tale of two losers who are best friends who want to get laid before college, but the problem is they are too lame to try and too lame to get the girls attention.

We’ve seen this sort of movie a ton of times before. Revenge of the Nerds comes to mind. We get to see the stereotypes and we’re supposed to relate and look back and laugh at the situation. When you take away that reason to laugh, you need character and good performance to make you laugh. Cera and Hill might look the part, but their acting is a waste. They will not be competing with Justin Long and Shia Lebeouf for next young star. Cera couldn’t act in Arrested Development and funny thing is, he has already stereotyped himself. He plays the same tired character over and over. Hill is the same; the big fat loser who talks loud because he doesn’t have the ability to do anything about his situation. These guys could have showed some true heart as their best friends relationship takes a turn for the worse, but instead I was glad that they were “breaking up.” I had no reason to believe some amazing friendship could possibly end over the fact that they were going to two different colleges in a few mo nths.

Maybe these types of movies aren’t for me. Many of those who know me would say I probably wouldn’t like these types of movies, but look at a movie like American Pie. That movie is funny. Jason Biggs is believable as the big loser and Seann William Scott is awesome as the stud who is not a stud.

I think we all know where this is going. This movie set itself up when it chose it’s title as many movies do. This movie is undoubtedly “superbad.”
