LOCATION:
The Rave - Milwaukee, WI
This was the second big name bill PUM has covered in
the last couple of months and again, signs of a troubled economy could
not be seen by the amount of people who turned out for this concert.
Because of arriving a little late, we only caught the
tail end of Destrophy's set, however, from what we heard it was pretty
intense. Not only that, but after witnessing them interact with
some fans after their set, it was obvious they were truly humbled to be
on the tour.
Milwaukee was the kick off date for this tour.
Sevendust was originally supposed to be on the bill, however, for
whatever reason they were not at the Milwaukee date.
Skindred was the big surprise of the evening. In a
recent interview we featured with the band, lead singer Benji Webbe told
PUM that his South Wales-based reggae-laced dance metal group was having
a hard time getting their name out to U.S. fans. Judging by
nothing more than crowd response, Skindred is a lot bigger than they
think. Massive amounts of attendees clapped when Webbe asked,
screamed during all the right parts and certainly rocked out when the
band played their biggest hit to date, "Nobody." If we could offer
one piece of concert going advice, it would be to catch Skindred next
time they come around your backyard.
Disturbed on the other hand was interesting. I
suppose I expected something a little more intense, yet by the end of
their set, these Chicago-based hard rockers left fans with a very
memorable experience. From vocalist David Draiman being wheeled
out in a straight jacket and mask resembling Hannibal Lector to the
intensity in his eyes, it became obvious that Disturbed set out for what
they achieved. They performed a great variety of songs from their
career catalog including "Stupify," "Down With the Sickness" and the
Grammy nominated "Inside the Fire." In the end, Disturbed gave
fans everything a rock show should be. The energy level was
amazing, from meathead jocks acting like screaming Beatles fans to girls
showing the band their assets, no one should have been disappointed with
the performance.
