Remember Cloverfield, the movie shot as
if one character is following the others around with a video camera
while a monster is terrorizing the city? Remember Blair Witch
where the camera follows the others around searching for some
supposed witch? Well, Quarantine, uses that format again.
Where the Witch was original and Cloverfield was
compelling, Quarantine falls flat.
Blindness tried to show us what would
happen when people were quarantined against their will due to some
blindness sickness. They all get stuck together for a reason. In
this movie, they are stuck together after they answer an emergency
call with the fire department. Once they go in, no one lets them
out. Why would the police allow them in in the first place? Stupid,
plan dumb.
There is nothing compelling. People seem to
have some blood virus that turns them into zombies. At least others
movies have showed people chased through a city by a monster and
others have interesting relationships due to each being blind. There
is nothing redeeming or original in Quarantine, although it
gives me peace to know that I was not locked up in a room with this
movie playing over and over. Once it was done, I never will be stuck
with it again.
