Punk Goes Crunk

(3.5 Out of 5)

This reviewer loves cliché cover songs and Punk Goes Crunk is an album full of them.  The Punk Goes…series has been extremely successful in showcasing up and coming, as well as established punk, emo and metal acts playing songs that definitely cross the genre spectrums.

Punk Goes Crunk will have listeners dancing, singing and crunking from Set Your Goals’ opening take on Lil Jon’s “Put Yo Hood Up” to Hot Rod Circuit giving their version of Snoop Dogg’s “Gin and Juice.”  The album does a great job of spanning hip-hop’s timeline with current hits like Rihanna’s “Umbrella” as performed by pop-punk sensations All Time Low, to a 2Pac classic like “California Love” covered by My American Heart.

The Punk Goes Crunk album, more so than Punk Goes 90’s or Punk Goes Acoustic allow for the bands showcased to explore themselves a little deeper than usual.  This album won’t change the face of music, but it will procure a good time!

Suggested Listening: “Put Yo Hood Up,” “Umbrella” and “I Wish”
