Seth Rogen and James Franco play a marijuana
buyer and dealer who accidentally see the murder of a competing
seller which puts them on the run. While on the run, they continue
to light up providing hilarity of the stoner type degree. If you
like stoner movies or Seth Rogen, this one is for you. If you do
not, watch it for James Franco. He transforms himself into the
stoner which saves the film from the discount bin at your nearest
rental store, at least for a few months.
The enjoyment of the movie is watching Franco.
Rogen brings, as usual, nothing to the film. The plot is manageable
and in many ways is a typical buddy movie or slacker movie fleeing
the bad guys only to end up getting them in the end and ‘saving the
day’ or at least the weed.
The problem with this movie is that it is
business as usual. Even if you were smoking some pineapple express,
the movie would be no different. It would still be a goofy stoner
movie with a lot of implausibilities and a bunch of half hearted
laughs keeping you amused, but nothing more.
