  Ocean's 13
(2 out of 5 stars)

Ocean's 11 was an impressive 4 out of 5 film. Ocean's 12 was a dismal 1 out of 5 film, and now we have Ocean's 13, which improves on its predecessor but never achieves or even comes close to the magic of the first film. The shtick between Brad Pitt, George Clooney, and Matt Damon has become boring. If only they would have walked away like their characters did in the first movie. With no Julia Roberts, we’re stuck with the overacting and misplaced Al Pacino and a cougar-like Ellen Barkin.

For some reason, the writers felt they needed to tie in stories from movies 1 and 2 and make this a trilogy, but why? This is a heist movie. The fun is to see a heist, not tie it in with everything that has happened and all who have participated. Eddie Izzard, Andy Garcia, Vincent Cassel…who cares? Give us humor, give us heist, keep us guessing? Ocean's 11 was about getting the girl, getting the money, and having some fun along the way, yet Oceans 13 is all about revenge, which has nothing to do with girls, money, or fun.

Brad Pitt needs to go back to movies like Mr. and Mrs. Smith (now there’s a possible sequel). George Clooney should keep himself in adult dramas like the current Michael Clayton. Matt Damon should bring us more Bourne (the first 3 were excellent!). Casey Affleck is smart by getting in Gone Baby Gone. Don Cheadle should continue roles like Crash and Hotel Rwanda. Everyone else should retire or go back to acting school. Julia Roberts was smart to stay away and set her sights on family and the upcoming Charlie Wilson’s War.

Ocean's 11 begged for an Ocean's 12, but 12 did not beg for a 13. In no way, should this group of goofballs multiply to 14. There is no need, there is no reason. It would now be a real waste of time. 13 is an unlucky number for most, and it has brought death to what should never have been a franchise in the first place.
