(4 Out of 5)
Mindless Self Indulgence are
masters of their craft. Not only that, they
never specifically tried to be mainstream, but
have somehow found themselves at the forefront
of big numbers, high sales and a rabid fanbase.
The band’s latest full-length entitled if
is everything fans would expect from this group
of dance-metal, Atari-rock pioneers. That is
perhaps the great thing about MSI, listeners
always know what to expect and MSI shows no
signs of changing.
“Lights Out” is a fast-paced
track, while “Issues” is assuredly a grindable
dance track with lyrics like, “It’s 3:00am / She
won’t put out / Lets go make out with her
friends.” “Get it Up” will have listeners
smirking as they dance along to the songs
synthetics, while “On It,” features a marching
tempo and Jimmy Urine’s signature quick vocal
barks.
if is
by far one of the band’s longest records, with
longer songs, which ultimately allow listeners
to enjoy the new work more. The first single
off the album, “Mastermind” sold 1,000 downloads
on its first day of being released to the
masses, while the second single “Never Wanted to
Dance” scored a #1 position on Billboard’s
Hot Dance Singles and Hot Single Sales. There’s
no doubt that whether MSI realize it or not,
they are on their way to superstardom. The
funny thing is, they probably don’t care.
Suggested Listening: “Issues,”
“Get It Up” and “Bomb This Track”
