Owen Wilson stars as John
Grogan, newly married to Jennifer Aniston’s character, starting
their life together as writers for Miami newspapers while also
buying a cute yellow Labrador to keep their life exciting. John
Grogan wrote the book that the movie is based on which is basically
a biography of his life from the time he bought the dog until later
in life.
The movie is not a funny comedy
about a dog that is misbehaved. A misbehaving dog is only part of
the movie. The real movie is about how a dog fits into the life of a
family going about their daily lives with real problems in being
happy in work, raising kids, and keeping a marriage together.
The acting is fine. There are
some cute scenes. There are some emotional scenes. Overall, there is
just nothing special. If I was not a dog owner myself, it would be a
pretty boring movie, but since I am, I liked it more, especially
because I have a yellow lab too. The movie shows how great owning a
dog is and how loyal they are, but really provides nothing more than
that.
