Finally Bruce Willis gets to play John McClane again. This is a
franchise that was very welcome to return. Justin Long (of Accepted and
Jeepers Creepers fame) is a welcome addition. The movie lives free with
the freshness of Long and tiredness of Willis, but dies with the
addition of Timothy Olyphant (previous of Scream 2 fame, and soon to be
Hitman).
This fourth movie of the series brings the ancient Willis living in
the past with the technology ready Long, so that they can battle against
a technology terrorist played by Olyphant. It is kind of hard to write
an action movie with a computer terrorist plot, and that is obvious by
how much I can recall after seeing the movie. The obvious reason to see
this movie is the stunt shown in the previews with Willis driving a cab
up a toll booth structure into a helicopter. It is awesome! Best stunt
of the year.
You don’t see this movie for the plot, and you don’t see it for the
villain. You see it for the action and Bruce Willis both of which won’t
disappoint you. If you’re looking for the grittiness and greatness of
the original you won’t find it, but if you’re looking for a rip roaring
good time; this is the movie to see.
The director uses great stylized action violence and the script
provides the wise cracking one liners we come to expect. This movie
should be viewed on a big screen TV or at the theater as the small
screen will not do it justice. But I guarantee that once you see the
action and laugh at the lines, you’ll come away yourself saying Yippee
Cayee Mutha F***er!
