(3 out of 5 stars)
Will Ferrell attempts to bring
life to the campy TV series in this big budget adaptation. The movie
was better than expected but ultimately was just an average
adventure flick with a few cool sets. The plot was weak, Danny
McBride was annoying, and the sleestacks really weren’t that scary.
I fully expected this movie to
be a 90 minute waste of time that I could not get back; however, it
was really not that bad. I guess that is what happens when you have
such low expectations for a movie. This is a movie that in the end
really has no redeeming value as there is no purpose and not any
message, it really is just for entertainment, and that is not enough
for me.
It would have been nice to see
the plot be more about something than just accidentally transporting
to an alternate world and trying to find the machine that will take
them back. A romantic connection would have been interesting. A
search for new life on a scientific scale would have been a reason
to travel to the alternate world. Something would have been nice.
I was not lost in this movie,
but ultimately its big star and its big hopes of being a summer
movie ended with mediocrity. More than likely, this movie will be
lost in the dumping ground of average movies and not live to see the
future.
