After live action version of Dr. Seuss stories
like The Grinch Who Stole Christmas and The Cat in the Hat,
20th Century Fox decided for a completely animated Seuss
story about the Who’s in Whoville who happen to live in a world that
is only a speck in a much larger world where we find Horton, an
elephant who ends up being the only animal in the jungle that can
hear the Who’s in Whoville.
Many celebrity voices are found throughout the
movie including Jim Carrey as Horton and Steve Carrell as the Mayor
of Whoville. The voices are perfectly cast down to the Kangaroo
voiced by Carol Burnett who is the one jungle animal ensuring that
Horton
Stops being too imaginative influencing all the
kids that tiny people live on a speck that he is keeping safe as it
sits on a puff flower. The voices are jovial with the right amount
of silliness to bring the Seuss characters alive.
The movie chooses a few sidebars with a
Japanimation sequence and a musical ending, both of which do not
truly fit in the movie, but overall, this movie is a success and is
perfect for all the kids. If adults find cartoons cute, they won’t
be bothered by sitting through it with their kids either.
Horton does hear a Who and I for one am glad he
did. What if we all lived on a speck called Earth inside this galaxy
and universe, but ultimately are just a micron in size compared to
some other bigger world? It is that imagination that Seuss brought
to his story and the filmmakers have brought to this movie.
