Timothy Olyphant stars as Agent
47, the lead character in the video game Hitman. It is
fairly common for video game movies to be pretty bad, and this one
tries too hard to be the video game and is not the sleek visual
story which it could have been. If you want an action film of
sillyness and entertainment, Shoot ‘Em Up is the 2007 movie
worth seeing. The filmmakers should have realized it is a video game
and allowed the movie to be silly, visually stunning and
entertaining, but they tried to be real filmmakers and made a
mistake in doing so.
Hitman
is actually pretty violent and R-rated as action movies go, and that
actually doesn’t seem necessary. I could have easily seen Agent 47
get the girl and kill the bad guys without remorse and without the
blood and sex. Also, what happened to the back story of why Agent
47 is nameless and that it appears he was trained to be a hitman
when he was young. That five to 10 minute back story could have
been very helpful in creating an appreciation for the character.
Hopefully, the upcoming Max
Payne can choose to be a serious movie based on a video game
since it stars Mark Wahlberg. Hitman had a second rate actor
who was appropriate for the role, but in all reality, Olyphant is
not much of an actor. If you want to be entertained by Hitman,
take the movie back and play the video game.
