   H20 & Dropkick Murphy's

LOCATION: The Rave - Milwaukee, WI

We here at Popular Underground don't always get the opportunity to really enjoy concerts.  You know, being able to have a few drinks, party with a big group of friends, inadvertently start a scuffle with a member of the Outlaws, that kind of thing.  Well, for the Dropkick Murphy's show, no one held back and thankfully, no one got hurt or in trouble.  All adversity was diverted and it was obvious that everyone in the crowd had a great time.

It seems that drinking and Dropkick Murphy's are synonymous with each other, so our group of 15 took a green party busy to the venue.  Commence the drinking.

Sadly, we missed the opening band, but caught H20's punk-laced set, which was both energetic and enjoyable.  The band showcased a wide spectrum of songs including a few new tracks of Nothing to Prove, as well as songs off my personal favorite record, Go.  While H20's sound wasn't completely crisp, die-hard fans sure knew what was being sung.  In this instance, I blame the P.A. system for not doing the band justice.

By the time Dropkick took the stage, most people in the crowd were more than a few Murphy's Stouts into the night.  The band's Irish-inspired church backdrop added to the overall appeal to the concert.  The band ripped through fan favorites like "Gonna Be a Blackout Tonight," "Walk Away," "The Outcast" and of course "I'm Shippin Up to Boston."  One doesn't realize how many hook-filled popular songs Dropkick really has to offer.  Essentially, every song the band played was a known sing-a-long.

Seeing Dropkick was a first for this music lover and hopefully not a last.  The band's usage of an array of instrumentation adds to the showmanship of a Dropkick concert.  Since this particular show was so close to St. Patrick's day, it was definitely a great way to celebrate the holiday!
