(2 Out of 5)
As a
longtime fan of Goldfinger, I can honestly say I
was a tad disappointed with Hello Destiny.
I had hoped the band would digress to their
earlier roots, however, this album really offers
nothing new and exciting from the pop-punk vets.
Hello
Destiny is slightly
better than their previous over-the-top-pop
effort Disconnection Notice. The opening
track, “One More Time” is extremely hook filled
and offers just over three minutes of
sing-a-long opportunities. Other tracks,
however, like “Goodbye” and “How Do You Do It”
fall short and left me feeling unfulfilled.
“Get Up” and
“If I’m Not Right…” are Hello Destiny’s
redeeming tracks, complete with obvious ska
influences like horns and quick strummed guitar
melodics. Known for their satirical take on
things, Goldfinger tackle biblical facts and
interpretations on “Handjobs For Jesus” with a
genre crossing song, which includes pop,
hardcore and even country. Ultimately, fans of
Goldfinger, who have liked them since their
early days will probably not like this record,
but new pop-punk connoisseurs will appreciate
it.
