Eye Alaska - Yellow & Elephant

(2 Out of 5)

Whoa, talk about symbolism Eye Alaska may come close to topping the cake of subliminal messaging!  What can be described as pioneering "cinematic rock," Eye Alaska delves their unique sound and overall consciousness into creating an album with overlapping vocals, smooth transitions, and a whole bunch of depth on every level.  The band originates in California, Orange County to be exact.  Close friends, Brandon Wronski (piano, guitar, and vox) and Cameron Trowbridge (lead guitar and vocals) have been playing together in bands since thirteen.  A little down the road they engaged Chase Kenrsue (piano, guitar, and vocals) and Christopher Osegueda (bass) into their music and formed in 2006 what would make a complete picture.  Wanting meaning to everything, they chose Eye Alaska as their name which meant "looking to those upon whom the sea breaks."  Simply put, everyone who has struggled through parts of life or have had "the sea breaking against them" can relate.

In an effort to stay objective, I will definitely say this album rings passion and intimacy.  The sound can be best described as a seven course meal...  you get a little of everything.  I'm not sure I'd classify it as "cinematic rock" but it definitely would have a spot on future movie soundtracks.  I almost feel this album would make for better representation in an older crowd of say forty and up?  It's a little too full of a sound for me, so to speak.
