A
Ridley Scott film? Yes! Starring Russell Crowe and Leonardo DiCaprio?
Hell, yes! Why is it not doing box office business? The reason is it
is one of the weakest Scott films and one of the weakest Crowe
performances, but do not blame Russell, his character was barely
written. DiCaprio did his typical good job making one think of his
performance in Blood Diamond or Brad Pitt’s in Spy Game.
This is
one of those movies where the previews are misleading. It appears to
be a game of cat and mouse with Crowe and DiCaprio, but actually,
Leo just works for Russell. Sure, the Crowe character does not share
everything with Leo’s character, but what boss does, especially in
the CIA. This story is more about the relationships the CIA makes
with foreign counterparts.
The
foreign relationships drive the story and are what make this movie
worth seeing, but the addition of some small romance for Leo is a
bit contrived and unnecessary. It would have been more interesting
to see Leo take down Russell, but in this case, he had no reason.
Body of Lies is ok but I wish they would have told the truth in
the preview.
