Vin Diesel, that tough guy who
first became popular for the sci-fi movie Pitch Black,
continues to follow those badass roots and plays a ‘deliverer;’ a
guy who brings the requested package to its destination, but in this
case, it is a young female who has special abilities. Is she
possibly the savior of the world?
The general plot seems to
follow that of Children of Men and ends quite the same with
the audience not quite sure if this miracle of a woman will become
the ultimate savior of the world. We just don’t know. Where
Children was more of a serious futuristic film, Babylon A.D.
is the action version, which actually makes the whole plot a bit
outrageous, as well as confusing.
A movie like this should be
more fun and entertaining, i.e. The Fifth Element, but it
chooses to act serious in a way that it cannot obtain especially
with an actor like Diesel filling the role of the protector. Did I
mention Michelle Yeoh? Yea, she’s in it too as the pseudo mother of
this special woman, but she really fills nothing, but a void which
the movie generally has throughout anyway.
