Against Me! - New Wave

We can thank Against Me! for what I'm calling the most mature punk rock album of 2007 and maybe even 2006.  Consistent march-like punk rock anthems drive New Wave from start to finish.  Against Me! has found away to combine punk-rock grit with just enough pop to keep it completely free from being dubbed as anything other than wholesome rock rebellion.

I only had to listen to this record once to get it.  Songs like "Thrash Unreal" and "Stop!" have enough hooks to get you singing along, but contain a certain sloppiness that just makes the package work.  "Borne on the FM Waves of the Heart" is a mellow track, yet also extremely powerful.

From Tom Gabel's raspy vocals to the foot-tapping melodies on almost every track, Against Me! have nailed the way punk should be, which is no boundaries at all.  New Wave is obviously political, but just as focused on getting people moving.  I give the record a 9 (out of 10).

Suggested Listening: "Stop!," "White People For Peace" and "Thrash Unreal"
