The A.K.A.s (Are Everywhere!)
have hit the punk nail on the head with their
latest endeavor Everybody Make Some Noise!
One thing is for sure, it is hard to sit still
while listening to this record! The A.K.A.s do
a fantastic job of combining gritty punk vocals
with their blend of synth-driven harmonies
hinting that the material on Everybody is
exactly what punk should be; a free
form. If it feels right, do it!
The album opens with “This is the
Way We Move,” a dance-inspired raw punk song,
but clean enough to hook people in. As
Everybody continues through track twelve, it
just keeps getting better. Whether it’s the
catchy “Dead Flowers Forever,” a song about
“surviving urban sprawl in a bankrupt culture,”
or the speaking out toward social vogues and
commercialism on “Everything is a Commercial,” a
song on which Dead Kennedys lead man Jello
Biafra opens with a carnival-like spoken word
introduction.
Everybody Make Some Noise!
definitely pays homage to old-school punk acts
like The Sex Pistols and The Clash, yet has a
modern-day edge that makes the A.K.A.s seriously
relevant. If this doesn’t get you moving, check
your pulse because something is wrong.
Suggested Listening: “Knives on
45’s,” “Everything is a Commercial” and “In Case
I Die Tonight”
